“I am delighted that you are considering Learn 4 Life School for your child.

Founded in 2005, the school is located in a small village – Ashton in Makerfield. We have recently purchased an old bible study building and have converted it to a comfy and modernised small school for 11-16 year olds.

Our small therapeutic school is brought to life by the positive energy of our pupils and staff who enjoy learning and working together here.

Our school is small enough to know everyone here yet large enough to offer a broad and balanced curriculum that meets the needs of the individual.

We provide education to SEMH learners and those with EHCP’s. As a result, children and young people excel with us not only academically but socially as well. As a school we recognise that just gaining qualifications will not equip our learners with the necessary skills for the ever-changing world in which we live. We therefore provide many opportunities for independence, careers and other vocational routes that inspire our young people.

We also have access to a narrow boat which we call Charmaine, our floating classroom. The boat is located near Ormskirk and is a wonderful resource for scientific projects as well as much more.

Our motto “Learning for Skills, Learning for Life. Change your Story” breathes through everything we do at the school. We believe all children and young people hold the power to rewrite their futures to successful ones.

I very much look forward to meeting with you be it virtually or in person, at one of our future events or for a tour of our school.”

About our school

At the heart of the school’s ethos, “Learning for life, Learning for skills. Change your story!” is the belief that all young people, whatever their background or ability, will be successful and valued and that their welfare and safety is of paramount importance. We believe that our students can write their futures through education.

We provide a rich, broad curriculum at a targeted and challenging level. This supports young people in developing the knowledge and skills that will prepare them for further study, training, and employment. We support them to attain the highest level of qualifications appropriate to them.

The school is registered to provide education for young people between the ages of 11-16 years, in line with the SEND Code of Practice 2015.

There are three elements to our provisions:

  • KS3 and KS4 for young people with Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans
  • Learning Hub education for vocational skills
  • Outreach offer for young people, who due to their complex needs require a bespoke education, including blended home/community, zoom and site-based learning.

Our education provision is scaffolded by an innovative fusion of quality first education, trauma informed practice and a nurturing approach. At Learn4Life we approach our young people’s education with an empathic, nurturing culture with targeted interventions which are embedded throughout everything we do. Our highly skilled, emotionally available adults build strong relationships enabling pupils to settle to learn which is supported by a PSHE scheme that supports this approach as well as developing the whole child.

The three pillars which underpin our education offer are:
Academic Learning
Vocational Learning
Personal Development.
