Learn 4 Life.

Our DoE Registered School

At Care Afloat we do not believe in paying lip service to the idea of meaningful and relevant education for Looked After Young People. We seek the support and commitment of Placing Authorities to ensure that all our young people receive appropriate educational opportunities for 25 hours per week from day one. Learn 4 Life is our DoE registered school, which provides individual and small group tuition for our young people, always with the aim of accessing the curriculum by full attendance.

Qualifications, including GCSE, ASDAN and AQA are all available to meet the varying needs of our pupils.

In line with the remit of the disapplied National Curriculum, the school nurtures the young people socially, morally, culturally, and spiritually according to their individual needs.

A wide range of services may be accessed, including educational psychologists, specialised therapies and assessments. These form part of the individualised timetable, drawn up for each young person.

Learn 4 Life offers Music Technology at the Engine Rooms.
An award winning provider, the Engine Rooms also offer performing arts and art & design courses. They specialise in BTEC and Arts Council awards.

For sports provision the school works with local company NRG.
NRG offer ASDAN and NVQ awards. The Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (ASDAN CoPE) can be studied, adding Environmental Studies to sports education.

Learn 4 Life also works closely with local colleges, including St Helen's, Skelmersdale and Wigan FE Colleges who together offer a very wide spectrum of courses to suit the individual needs of many of our young people.

Students have also accessed vocational training courses at Be-De-Stressed for hair and beauty and FIX-IT UK for car mechanics, both local companies specialising in training for young people aged 14-19 .

Beyond these providers, Learn 4 Life has an excellent track record in putting together flexible and creative education packages, tailored to the interests of the young person. Successful placements have been made at garden centres, nurseries and local shops. All placements lead to nationally recognised certificates, awarded through the provider or the school.

• Learn 4 Life aims to bring enjoyment and enrichment to the students who attend.
